EUGENE THESIER DROWNED
Sinks Before Companions Can Give Aid While Bathing at Whitaker’s Falls
Eugene Thesier, 23, of West Martinsburg, son of Mrs. Rosanna and the late Moses Thesier, was drowned at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday while bathing at Whitaker’s falls, near Martinsburg.
Mr. Thesier, with four companions, Harold Edick, Stanley Borowiec, Leon Fikes and Russell Peebles, members of a road construction crew working on the Martinsburg-Glenfield highway, decided to go swimming after their noon lunch, and it is believe Mr. Thesier was overcome by cramps, and was drowned before his companions could render assistance. The water varied from seven to 25 feet deep in the vicinity where the drowning occurred.
Eugene Thesier was a son of Mrs. Rosana and the late Moses Thesier and had lived in the county the past 15 years, coming here with parents and family from Gouverneur. About a year ago he married Miss Florence Peebles, of West Martinsburg, who survives. Also surviving are his mother, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Lashbrook, Philadelphia, N.Y., and Mrs. Edith Brunett, Richville; and nine brothers, Leo, Moses, Medios, Albert and Louis, of Lowville; William and Joseph, of Syracuse; Anthony Thesier, Elk Lake, Ont., and Napoleon Thesier, Copenhagen.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning from St. Peter’s church, Lowville, and the burial will be in Rural cemetery.
