Allen S. Delair

Allen S. Delair, 76, of Syracuse, formerly of Tupper Lake, NY, passed away quietly at home after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma on March 12, 2013. He was born August 5, 1936 in Tupper Lake, son of Lionel and Beulah (Sears) Delair. He graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in 1955 and joined the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Benham traveling the world. He was honorably discharged in 1957. Allen graduated from SUNY Canton ATC and moved to Syracuse where he worked for Powers Regulator, later part of the Siemens group. He retired from the company as an operations manager after 38 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years doing some traveling, tinkering in his shop and making great memories with his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 44 years, Delia (Dechene); parents and sister, Carol Kope. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Susan (Rathbun); children, Richard and wife, Deborah of High Point, NC, Julie of Syracuse, Janet and partner, Bruce Mumley of Syracuse, Susan and husband, Mark Riley of Columbia, MD; grandchildren, Jeffery Newton of Boston, MA, Jason Newton and Daniel Newton, both of Syracuse, Christopher Delair of Myrtle Beach SC, Rebecca and Patrick Riley of Columbia, MD; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Theresa LaFave and Georgia Fredricks of Tupper Lake and many nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country.

Allen was a wonderful brother, son, friend, husband, father and an especially loving and caring grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at All Saints Church Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral Mass at 6 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Rescue Mission at 155 Gifford Street, Syracuse, NY 13202.
